poor kitty
I am having a very hard time with one of my three cats. I would really like some advice on what to do.
My male cat is 12 years old and for the last 10 months to a year he has been pooping around the house. He makes it to the litter box to pee every time. I have taken him to three different vets. One vet said that he was fine and to let him outside (he has always been an indoor cat). Another said the same thing. I had him declawed many years ago knowing he would not be going outside. I don’t feel comfortable letting him out. He doesn’t even act like he wants to go out. The third vet did the endoscopy on him and found that he suffered from irretiable bowel syndrome. So we started medicating him. We are now trying our third medication and he is a bit better, in that he isn’t throwing up as much and he doesn’t have all the gas he had. But he is still pooping all over my house.
So my question to all is if you were in my situation what would you do? Should I put him to sleep?
Also I have twin girls age two. They are all over the house. I am always worried that they may find the poop before me. I don’t want them to get sick because of the cat.
I need some help in what to do. I don’t believe in putting an animal down if he’s not dying, but what else am I to do
Thanks for any advice.

Sheesh, Felix, that’s a hard question to answer.
First and before anything else, let me tell you that my heart goes to you. It’s terrible when a loved animal gets one of these incurable conditions and it seems you are running out of options. But maybe you are not. If I were you, I would first do as much research as I could on the condition. Then I would try everything there is out there: organic food, hollistic medicine, homeopathy, accupuncture (this is a little expensive, though), the works.
At the same time, I would first put covered litter boxes with the finest and softest clumping litter in them (not scented -cats don’t like it) all over the place (with IBS, they poop all over the place because they cannot make it in time and they just cannot hold it, period). If that did not work, I would restrict him to one room with two or three litter boxes and a pheromone plug in. If that did not work, then, and only then, after I have tried everything (for a while, mind you, not a day or two -homeopathic treatments are usually long term), and found that nothing worked, then I would put him down, not before.
Sorry I could not be of more help and good luck!
Bibi
