Pain relief for cats
We have 4 cats in a rural community. About 20 minutes ago our cat was clipped by a car and his left bottom part of his paw is swollen and distended, about an inch from the base of his paw. We need to get him to the vet but in the mean time what type of pain relief can we give him?

don’t know of any human pain meds that can be safely given to a cat. Cats are hyper-sensitive to many drugs, so no drugs should ever be administered without specific veterinary instruction.
I recommend you get your cat to an emergency clinic, if possible, or at least call your vet at home and ask how to handle your cat’s injury until he can be seen.
I wish your cat rapid and complete healing.

This is a little late to do you any help but, for future reference… Actually, there are no real pain killers for cats (as there are for dogs).
Until a year ago, (which was the last time I had need of a pain killer for one of my cats) all they had were shots that put them to sleep for a few hours, which I always insist they get even if I have to argue with the vet because when an animal is in pain, it will not eat and will not sleep which does not help at all if they are recuperating from surgery or trauma. A restful, pain free nap of a few hours and they will wake up 300% better.
But, if you are ever in a similar situation, you can help the swelling (and thereby reduce pain) by soaking the foot in warm water with peroxide in it (if the cat allows you to do it) for 10 to 15 minutes, three to four times a day, although this is usually done more for dogs or other animals than cats, healthy felines having so incredible healing powers.
Hope your cat is doing better!
