I think giving a pet as a gift is a terrible idea unless you are talking about immediate family.

Hi..Im an animal lover.I loved pets!
I was able to received a hamster last Christmas.It serves a gift from my Dad!

I agree, it could turn out to be a rather 'risky' choice, though intentions may be good.  If recipients aren't happy with giver's choice, it could cause for some hard choices and even possible hard feelings.

I'd play if safe, and if anyone wants to give someone a pet as a gift?  Play it safe!   Get them 'fish'.  Wink

Pets as gifts are a very bad idea! Even with the best of intentions - the timing is usually not right. As most are given as gifts during the holidays - too much going on to properly introduce a new pet into the home.

"Pet" gift certificates are a much better idea. This way the recipient can "pick" their own new friend at a time right for the whole family.

Far too many rabbits and chicks end up at shelters after easter - puppies and kittens after Christmas and any new movie that comes out featuring dogs.
