Loving Wildlife to Death??

Hi there, I am new to this and joined to discuss a topic very close to me  Grin
How close can an animals relationship be to a human being without becoming domesticated. I am fascinated to see how a hand reared animal, such as an Elephant, can be released back into the wild and yet still obtain its ability to interact with others of its kind when it comes to finding a mate etc.  Wink
Having read a number of articles about hand rearing, this phase seems to always pop up 'Loving wildlife to death' a phase that I think to be a very conflicting issue amongst animals lovers. Is it kinder to let animals die rather than to intervene?  The case of the polar bear, Knut, in Berlin Zoo was a recent news article I found fascinating.  Cry I am aiming to go and study behaviour of hand reared animals in south africa over the summer, and really i wondered, its it kinder to be cruel? Please discuss, i would love to know your opinions!!  Grin Smiley

Though it might be something that would appeal to most people and the possibility of having them interact with their natural form, I am not quite sure that there is a lot to know and be familiar with at that.

I would likely intervene given the level of suggestion that would render their choices null.  But that would be another one of those uncertain moves that could backfire at you. It's a risk on both situations anyway.
