My 4 month old poodle puppy is a pleasure until he gets excited and begins bitting me instead of his toy.  I am open to any idea that can help.

I have found that when they start this tap him on his nose with your fingertips (not hard) and say no.

When you are petting him and he does this immediatly stop petting him.  You can also just leave your hand in his mouth and say no.  Moving your hand makes him think you are playing.

Continue to say no until he stops and then pet him nicely as you say "nice boy/girl"

Consistency is the key here.  When he starts to bite you, give him a firm no (don't yell) and immediately give him something that he is allowed to chew and bite on (such as a Kong toy).  When he begins to chew on that, praise him.  Again you need to be consistent with this.
