flea infested stray to the HS..transporting?

Its getting pretty cold here at night and there's a stray cat wandering around my apt....because I fed him/her once and she apparantly was very hungry, but doesnt look thin or sick,so I have always thought she/he had a caring owner somewhere. Well after last night hearing her in the cold crying and meowing all night, I dont care if the 'owner' misses him/her or not, Im taking it to the humane society so she can be adopted into a home that wont let her stay out in the freezing cold all night. I would adopt her myself but I have a FLEA FREE mama cat and kitten, and dont wanna go through the whole flea thing again and more babies and stuff. SO the question is, how do I transport this cat...without filling the car with fleas? I dont want any chances of fleas getting on me then in my home. I know most places will do a pick up,but I dont want any neighbors (whoever the owner is) getting mad at me seeing the people takin the cat. I just want the best for this poor cat...shes real beautiful and I feel so bad.  Sad   thanx guys...

Go to your vet and buy a dose of Advantage, then treat the cat outdoors and wait 24 hrs before transporting her to the HS or, better yet, adopting her yourself.  As long as the Advantage has time to kill any existing fleas on the stray, you shouldn't have any problem with unwanted flea infestations.

I agree. If you would adopt her flea-free, then that should not be a problem. Once she has had an advantage dose applied to her, she should not have any fleas. You could even ask your vet for a pill called capstar (in addition to the advantage). Capstar will kill all the fleas that are on her immediately, but will not keep new fleas from getting on her. If, after you give her the capstar and advantage, you bring her inside into a flea-free environment, she should have little to no opportunity of getting re-populated by fleas.

Hey all... I dropped her at the animal shelter this morning. I would have loved to adopt HIM (i found out this morning his sex) but I already have two female cats who are not fixed (or spayed?)  --they r indoor only -- plus a 3 yr. old child who already gives them a hard time.... and a newborn on the way.  so didnt really need another cat. not to mention my husband doesnt care for pets and he has to live with my zoo. lol (also have a bird and snake)     SO i went ahead and took him to the best place I could so he wouldnt have to be hungry another cold night.       Thx guys..... Too bad you couldn't keep...but your house sounds plenty full already! I'm sure he is glad to have a nice bowl of food and a warm place to sleep in.

Yea I took the little sh*t to a good place, but he didnt leave me without leaving a little surprise in the back of the car up by the window, and some VERY strong smelling pee in the baby car seat. SO we got rid of the cat, but now gotta get a new car seat because the smell WILL NOT WASH OUT!! LOL
Last night I noticed ANOTHER new cat, same kind as the last one, meowing like crazy outside my door! Am i the animal rescuer or something!? LOL

May every blessing and Good luck come your way.

You are the salt of the earth person.  Bring, the cat tothe shelter, please, it is better than freezing to death, having  litter after litter and going out in the cold to find food for herself and her babies.
