My 3 mo. old jack russel wont drink much water

Absolutely non from inside I've tried boiling it, adding bouillon to it she just wont drink it. Ive added some to her food & she likes to drink from my hand a tiny bit if we are working in the garden. I don't think this is healthy. What  Has anyone every done in this situation? We will be making a trip to the vet this week for sure so any advice would be helpful
Thanks

Gosh, that is certainly odd.  I have a Jack Russell and he drinks when he's thirsty.  I wonder if it could be something psychological.

Maybe it has something to do with the bowl you are using for water?  Try putting water in the bowl you feed him out of.

Since he will drink from your hand, have you tried putting your hand in the water bowl to encourage him?  Maybe do this when coming in from the garden instead of giving him some water from your hand while you are outside.

I would love to know what the vet might think of this.

Are you feeding him wet food? He could be getting all the moister he needs from his food. Other than that add a little water to his dry kibble and/or mix wet food up with his dry food.

Dogs, like humans, need to drink water every day. Also like humans, dogs are at risk for dehydration if they avoid drinking water and are not properly hydrated. A dog  is actually at a greater risk for dehydration than its human counterpart because they release heat from their bodies much more slowly. A dog’s body heat is released through the pads of its feet and its nose. If your dog seems to avoid drinking water, there may be a reason for it and you should pay attention to your dog to reduce the risk of dehydration.

If your dog  is not drinking, you should check his mouth for obstruction from an object stuck somewhere in the mouth. Other reasons dogs may avoid drinking water include illness and while recovering from surgery or an injury. If you can find no logical explanation for why your dog  is refusing water, you should have him checked by a vet. If he is recovering from surgery or an illness, proper hydration is important to the recovery process. If you can not get results from gentle coaxing and encouragement, try moistening their regular food with water. If you can not get your dog  to drink, especially in hot weather, call your veterinarian.

Hi Bell,

I was wondering what the vet said about your Jack Russell not drinking water from his bowl.
