Kitten help...for Frankie =^..^=
Mar 10th, 2010 at 7:23pm

It's been a few weeks since I/we lost Joey.  (I would have never guessed Liver disease could be so unfair!!)   It's still hard for me to believe he is gone.   Cry

With Joey's passing, I've noticed Frankie seems to not only miss his brother, but that he is grooming wayyyy more then he did.  Frankie has hairball problems now and I'm wondering if there is anything natural that I can give him, to help his "outcome".  Frankie is going on 10 mos.

I use to give my 18 yr old kitty mineral oil in her food, but I'm not sure if I should do that for a kitten.  If there is kitten Petramalt (sp?), Frankie will not touch it. Frankie is REALLLLYYYYY pickie about what goes in his mouth!  Tongue

Tempest?  somanykitties?  Anybody???  Can you help me out here?
Thank you for your time!!

I'm not sure what to tell you to try, Kitty.  I know there are a lot of hairball remedies out there but I would have no idea which one to suggest.  Maybe your vet can help with that.  My babies get an occasional fur ball but not too often so I have never bought anything to help with that.  Hopefully between you and your vet you will find a solution.  I hope he will continue to mend and you too.  I know how hard it is, I cannot believe my Powder is gone either.  So sad but we will get better.  Hang in there.

Sorry, Guys, I've been frantically trying to deal with a tax crisis in the midst of caring for the 4-leggeds here, so I haven't been checking in on the forum like I should be.  Kitty, I am so sad and sorry for your loss of Joey.  It's just heartbreaking to lose one so young.

Frankie's overgrooming may be caused by the stress of losing his brother.  Or he may be overgrooming because this is the time of year when cats shed.  My cats are upchucking hairballs all over the place right now.  Petromalt or CatLax or even just plain Vaseline will help him pass the hairballs.  Since Frankie won't eat any of these on his own, just smear a dollop of one of them onto his foot or leg so that he has to lick it off.  Do that once a day for a week, and that should take care of the problem.  Don't use it longer than a week because it can interfere with absorbtion of nutrients, and you don't want that happening long-term.

I wish you a peaceful grief.

Thank you ladies!!

Frankie use to clean Joey's ears and visa versa.  It was the cutest thing.  They also groomed each other.  Now that Joey is gone, Frankie is going into over drive on the cleaning.  I got him use to being combed.  Now if only he will get use to being brushed too!   Embarrassed  He cracks me up!

I'll pick up some Petromalt and follow your instructions.

Thank you so much for your time.

P.S. I hope everything turned out with your crisis!
