3 Crazy Cats
Nov 22nd, 2009 at 7:07pm

I have 3 cats, one is 1 year old, 3 yrs old, and 6 yrs old.  My question is why does the middle cat (Tiger) go after the older cat (Rolly), and then the youngest cat (Tink) decides to go after both.  The result has been that both the older and the younger cats have had infections or bubbles that form on their backs, and then explode with puss.  I am the one who cleans them up and takes care of them.  I don't want to get rid of the cats, but they are driving me crazy here.  Any feedback would be great on how to seperate them if possible.  Thanks.

If these cats aren't neutered already, get that done immediately.  Raging hormones are going to cause ongoing aggression among your males. If your cats were neutered after reaching sexual maturity, then they are displaying what I refer to as "testosterone memory".  I live with a bunch of late-neutered ex-toms, and their aggressive behaviors were ingrained while they were testosterone-ridden, intact toms.  While neutering did mellow them somewhat, it did not eliminate their learned aggressive behaviors entirely.

When my boys go on the attack with each other, I put them into time-outs in separate rooms - sometimes for 30 mins, sometimes all day.  It just depends on how long it takes them to chill out and behave properly again.  You can also carry a water squirt bottle with you and give them a good soaking when they go at it.

I also recommend you develop a good relationship with your vet and see if he'll sell you a supply of antibiotics to keep on hand.  If you can start your boys on antibiotics immediately after a fight, you can avoid the development of wound abscesses.

Hi there yeah all the females are fixed that was the first thing we needed to get done,  with the amount of male cats that use to be around here, there was no chance that I was going to let the cats have kittens.

LOL Tempest we use a squrit bottle on the cats.  Its just weird how they stalk eachother especially when they go down the hallway.  They just watch around the corner and then strike, and the piercing noise from the cats is just to much to handle.

Oh yeah when we first went to the vet they gave us clavamox for the cats.  We ran out of that, then Rolly got another syst like 2 weeks later.  Then Tink got one, its be very crazy here.  Luckily our neighbor who has 4 greyhounds had some on hand, and we gave that to them and 2 days later it healed right up.  They are mainly outside cats, so you can imagine when one sits on the porch and the other sneaks up behind them they go at it.  I really hate jumping out of my seat to see what is going on.

But thank you Tempest for the advice.  I could really use anything right now.  Well hope to write you again.  I will keep everyone updated on the cats health.  I don't like seeing unhealthy cats in the house.
